Washington, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) made the following statement regarding the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) unanimous decision this afternoon rejecting the Trump administration's September proposal to subsidize coal and nuclear plants in competitive electric markets.

'The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission did the right thing today by unanimously rejecting the Trump administration's wrong-headed proposal to bail out coal and nuclear plants at the expense of consumers. Going forward, FERC must stand guard against future efforts to add billions of dollars to Americans' electric bills just to prop up uncompetitive technology.'
