Copper prices rose after China lifted Covid-19 restrictions in an effort to reopen its economy. Authorities said yesterday that they will step up financial support for restaurant and tourism companies hit hard by the pandemic.

In the UK, the retail sector saw a 40% increase in shoppers during the first Christmas without pandemic restrictions, according to data released by Springboard.

However, footfall on Boxing Day remained 18.2% lower than pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
