Doe Run's Aaron Miller Named International Lead Association Chairman

ST. LOUIS (Jan. 6, 2014) - Aaron Miller, vice president of operations and chief operating officer for The Doe Run Company (Doe Run), has been appointed chairman of the International Lead Association (ILA), the only global industry association focused on the safe production, use and recycling of lead. Miller has previously served on ILA's Executive Committee.

"Through groundbreaking research on lead and promoting responsible lead use and recycling, ILA is crucial in preparing the lead industry for a long and profitable future," said Miller. "I'm honored to partner with ILA members as we work to meet the challenges and opportunities facing our industry. Together, we can meet the rising global demand for lead used in everyday items, such as lead-acid batteries and protective medical shielding."

ILA is comprised of member companies that represent about 3 million tons of lead production per year, and are involved in all facets of lead manufacturing - from mining to recycling. Through research programs and coordinated industry initiatives, all members work to promote a sustainable lead industry that makes a positive contribution to society. ILA funds the International Lead Management Center, which promotes the sound management of lead worldwide; the International Lead Zinc Research Organization, which conducts research into the protection of human health and the environment; and supports the Advanced Lead-Acid Battery Consortium, which is developing advanced lead-based batteries for hybrid vehicles.

During his term as ILA chairman, Miller will help guide the wide range of activities that are supported by the association's 40 member companies. ILA's chairperson is elected by its Executive Committee. Miller's term officially began on Dec. 1, 2013.

As Doe Run's COO, Miller oversees all of the company's mining, milling, and lead recycling operations in Missouri, and two lead fabrication sites in Arizona and Washington. Prior to being named COO in 2012, Miller served as Doe Run's vice president of environmental, health and safety, applying more than 20 years of environmental compliance experience to guide the company's sustainability strategy.

Since joining Doe Run in 1998, Miller launched a companywide environmental stewardship program and developed the Enterprise Task Management System (ETMS), which tracks the company's performance on more than 6,000 monthly environmental tasks. Miller also initiated one of Doe Run's most comprehensive environmental initiatives - a lead transportation and materials handling program that ensures the safe handling of lead both on and off of Doe Run properties. Under Miller's leadership, Doe Run has significantly improved its overall health and safety performance, including decreasing employee blood-lead averages and total lost-time accidents.

Miller earned a bachelor's degree in mining engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla).
