School Choice Week begins in New Hampshire and across America this Sunday, with the goal of raising awareness about the options that parents have for their children's education.

The Week will feature 138 events and activities across the Granite State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. In addition, a celebration is planned on Tuesday, January 23 at the Radisson Hotel Manchester Downtown.

Nationwide, 32,240 events and activities are being organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 21-27, 2018), and nearly 7 million Americans are expected to participate. It will be the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.

The Week brings attention to the different education environments that are available for New Hampshire’s 267,000 children. For example, families in New Hampshire can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling. The state also offers a private school choice program and tuition-free, public online schooling.

"These events provide a tangible manifestation of the positive outcomes that result when the entire educational community—parents, teachers, and students—strives for the best. And the joy on the students’ faces—the joy that comes from learning and achievement—should provide added motivation for all of us to expand school choice to every parent and every child, so all can work to achieve their best," said Kate Baker of Children's Scholarship Fund - New Hampshire.

Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

“Over the last several years, the number of education options available for New Hampshire families has increased significantly,” said Andrew Campanella, president of National School Choice Week. “National School Choice Week provides a time to celebrate the state’s school choice success stories, while letting more parents know about the K-12 educational choices available for their children.”
