Exports and imports in November 2020 higher than a year ago

Slovenia's exports in November 2020 were 0.9% higher than in November 2019 (amounting to EUR 3.0 billion); in the same comparison imports were 11.9% higher (amounting to EUR 3.3 billion). In November, the values of exports and imports were higher than the average value of monthly exports and imports in 2019 (exports by 6.5% and imports by 14.5%).

In November 2020 deficit in trade in goods was recorded; it amounted to EUR 0.3 billion. The export/import ratio was 91.5%. In the past ten Novembers we mostly recorded deficits. The deficit in November 2020 was the largest of them.

Exports slightly increased both to EU Member States and EU non-member countries in November 2020

Exports to EU Member States in November 2020 were 0.9% higher than in the same period of 2019, while imports were 3.4% lower. Exports to EU Member States amounted to EUR 2.1 billion and imports to EUR 2.0 billion. Slovenia generated 69.4% of total exports and 61.7% of total imports with EU Member States. In that month Slovenia traded the most with Germany, Italy, Austria and Croatia.

The value of goods Slovenia exported to EU non-member countries in November 2020 increased by 0.9% compared to the same period of 2019, while the value of goods imported from the mentioned countries increased by 50.3%. Exports to EU non-member countries in November 2020 amounted to EUR 0.9 billion and imports to EUR 1.2 billion. As regards imports, Slovenia's most important trading partner from this group of countries was Switzerland. The growth of the value of imports from this country (137%) contributed the most to the overall growth of imports from EU non-member countries.

Decrease in exports and imports from January to November 2020 over the same period of 2019

Slovenia's exports in the January-November 2020 period amounted to EUR 30.4 billion (a decrease by 2.7% over the same period of 2019), while imports amounted to EUR 29.2 billion (a decrease by 6.9% over the same period of 2019).

The value of exports in the first eleven months of 2020 exceeded the value of imports by 4.0%. The external trade surplus amounted to EUR 1.2 billion. The external trade surplus was recorded in all months except in August and November.
