Smaller area sown with bread cereals than in autumn 2015

According to provisional data, in autumn 2016 for the first time after 2010 less than 30,000 hectares were sown with wheat, the most important bread cereal in Slovenia. The area sown with spelt, i.e. an old wheat variety, which has been increasingly lately, was 59% smaller than in 2015. The area sown with rye, another important bread cereal in Slovenia, was 9.2% larger than in 2015, but 9.4% smaller than the last ten-year average.

Larger area sown with both fodder cereals - barley and triticale - than in autumn 2015

In autumn 2016 the most important fodder cereal in Slovenia, i.e. barley, was sown on 19,937 hectares, which is a tenth more than in autumn 2015 and a fifth more than the last five-year average.

The area of triticale, which has been increasingly lately, was 3.2% larger than in 2015 and as much as 54% larger than ten years ago.

Again larger area sown with oil turniprape

In autumn 2016, 4,189 hectares were sown with oil turniprape, which is almost a fifth (18.7%) more than in 2015, 50% more than in 2014, which was a very unfavourable year for this crop, but still a fifth less than the last ten-year average
