Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said farmers' fears over Brexit will not be allayed by measures set out by the British government's environment secretary today.

Martina Anderson said:

'There is widespread concern in among those involved in farming and agriculture over the disastrous impact the Tory Brexit agenda will have on the sector.

'The comments today by the British government's environment secretary, Michael Gove, on what the future of agriculture funding could look like post-Brexit will not allay those fears.

'These plans, in line with the Tories' entire approach to Brexit, are confusing and light on detail.

'And crucially for farmers here they do not deal with the huge challenges faced by farmers and producers in the north.

'The only way to adequately address the concerns of the farming community in the north on Brexit is to secure special status for the north within the EU.'
