Ministry of Mines of Republic of India : NATIONAL GEOSCIENCE AWARDS – 2014 will be presented by the President in New Delhi Tomorrow

The President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee will confer the National Geoscience Awards ­ 2014 (NGA­2014) on thirty three geoscientists on tomorrow, at the Cultural Centre, Rashtrapati Bhawan, in the presence of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Steel & Mines, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Union Minister of State for Steel & Mines, Secretary, Mines Shri Balvinder Kumar, senior officials of Ministry of Mines and other Ministries and Heads of geoscientific organizations.

The National Geoscience Awards, previously known as the National Mineral Awards, was instituted by the Ministry of Mines in 1966, to honour individuals and teams of scientists for their extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions in fundamental and applied geosciences and mining and allied fields.

The award carries cash prize and a certificate. Till date (i.e. up to NGA­2013), seven hundred twenty one geoscientists have been honoured with the National Geoscience Awards.

The National Geoscience Awards includes one Award for Excellence, one Young Scientist Award and nineteen individual and / or team awards in 16 fields of geosciences.

Thirty three geoscientists are receiving the National Geoscience Awards (NGA­2014), this year.

Prof. A.K. Singhvi, Honorary Professor, PRL Ahmadabad receives the Award for Excellence for his outstanding contributions in the field of Quaternary Geology and Dr. Indra Kumar Sen, Assistant professor, IIT, Kanpur receives the Young Scientist Award for his contributions in the field of geochemical evolution of earth. Besides, thirty one geoscientists receive the award, as individuals or team, for meritorious contributions in twelve fields of geosciences.
