Irish consumer price inflation slows to 2.2% in June despite fuel rise

(Alliance News) - Consumer price inflation in Ireland eased further in June, marking the eight consecutive month of a below-5% rate, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office on Thursday.

The consumer price index rose 2.2% in June from a year before, slowing from the 2.6% pace in May. On a EU-harmonised basis, CPI inflation was 1.5% last month, slowing from 2.0% in May.

On a monthly basis, prices rose by 0.4% in June from May, slowing from the 0.5% rise in May from April. On a harmonised basis, the monthly increase was 0.3%, slowing from 0.6% in May.

The biggest annual increase in consumer prices last month was in Transport at 4.9%, the CSO said. This was caused by 13% hike in the price of diesel and 9.3% in petrol.
