Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on the OPW & Flood Relief Eugene Murphy TD has requested that Minister for the Office of Public Works & Flood Relief Kevin 'Boxer' Moran appears before the Dáil to answer questions about the government's response to flooding in Ballinasloe and surrounding areas.

Deputy Murphy commented, 'Serious flooding has become all too common in Roscommon and Galway. The current emergency across the two counties is a direct result of this government's failure to act on the issue.

'I recently raised questions about departmental investment in flood prevention and relief projects after new figures revealed a €50m underspend in flooding capital projects. Minister Moran must ensure that every last cent of this money is put into flood defences. Blocked roads and submerged land is becoming an all too common occurrence in towns, villages and townlands across the west of Ireland - this is simply not acceptable.

'I have asked the Ceann Comhairle to allow a special debate on this matter to press the Minister as to what he will be doing to address this crisis and to set out the exact plan for ramping up flood defences,' concluded Deputy Murphy.
