Throughout 2016, EEX considerably increased the volume in dairy futures, achieving a new annual record with 82,050 tonnes traded (equivalent to 16,410 contracts). This result further strengthens EEX's position as the leading exchange in Europe for dairy futures. In December 2016, the monthly volume exceeded the 10,000 tonnes threshold for the first time. In 2015, a total of 29,380 tonnes (5,876 contracts) were traded in dairy products.

Skimmed Milk Powder Futures and Butter Futures in particular contributed to this growth, both achieving new annual records. In Skimmed Milk Powder Futures 52,230 tonnes (10,446 contracts) were traded, more than trebling the result of the previous year (2015:16,225 tonnes; 3,245 contracts). Trading in Butter-Futures increased to 29,595 tonnes (5,919 contracts) during 2016 which is more than double the volume of the previous year (2015: 11,695 tonnes; 2,339 contracts).

Overall, EEX recorded a volume of 55,838 traded contracts (11 May - 31 December 2015: 26,564 contracts) in the second year of trading in agricultural products.
