The combined heat and power (CHP) project of Adisseo won the Responsible Care Chairman Award from the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), an award to recognize chemical enterprises that practice their environmental responsibilities with actions, methods and creative products.

The production process in Adisseo plant uses a lot of steam, which has long been fueled by natural gas. To reduce the dependence on fossil fuel and the chemical industry's damages to the environment, Adisseo has partnered with NEOEN, a company specialized in the renewable energy sector, and built a thermal power plant that can generate electricity and steam simultaneously.

The power plant generates steam by fully burning saw dust in furnaces equipped with steam turbines and some of the steam is used to power the daily production of Adisseo while some to generate electricity and be sold to the French power grid. The power plant can meet the electricity consumption demand of 100,000 urban residents.

By replacing the natural gas with biomass energy, Adisseo is expected to cut its greenhouse emission by 30% and natural gas consumption by more than 20%. When Adisseo claimed the award in Lyon France, Paris was celebrating the 21 UN Climate Change Conference which gathered 195 countries and adopted the Paris Agreement, the first of its kind within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. As a party to the Responsible Care Global Charter, Adisseo has always been committed to contributing to better safety management and sustainability of the chemical industry.
