4 January, 2017, PARIS, France - At a special ceremony in Paris, former AfricaRice Director General Papa Abdoulaye Seck, now Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment of Senegal, and current Director of Strategic Partnerships at the CGIAR System Management Office, Alain Vidal, were elected to the French Academy of Agriculture.

Each year, new members are elected to the French Academy of Agriculture, recognizing their contributions to agricultural science research in France and around the world.

The French Academy of Agriculture informs the French Government and public opinion of progress in all aspects of agricultural science, including plant production systems, animal production, human and social sciences and food industries, among others.

Established in 1761 by King Louis XV, the French Academy of Agriculture is highly regarded by government ministers, practitioners and scholars, and regularly distributes awards, medals and grants within its sphere of competence.
