CHICAGO and NEW YORK, Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, 120 Sports unveiled the inaugural Millennials' Athlete Index based on exclusive research, conducted in conjunction with Ranker, that for the first time reveals the athletes mattering most to its target audience - Millennials.

The network, available exclusively as an OTT network on supported smartphones, tablets and connected devices, focuses on the hot topics, sports and athletes this generation of sports fans craves.

Athletes representing eight different major sports, including basketball, football, baseball, soccer, golf hockey, tennis and action sports were represented within the top 40.

In its extensive research, including a partnership with Ranker and leveraging its own viewership trends, 120 Sports surveyed over 1,400 Millennials (defined as 18 to 34-year-olds) to choose the professional, Olympic and collegiate athletes that matter most to them. Voters could cast both positive and negative votes on the rank of athletes, sending their favorite athletes to the top, while voting athletes they may dislike lower on the list. To determine the top athletes, Ranker uses an algorithm designed to balance various dimensions of agreement, popularity and positivity.

Breaking down the results by region, the top-rated athletes were Curry (Midwest), Damian Lillard (West Coast), Trout (Northeast), Peyton Manning (South) and Watt (Mountain).

The rankings provide additional insights including:

-- 8 out of the top 10 are 26 years of age or younger
-- 2 out of the top 5 are defending champions in their respective sports
-- Jonathan Toews, NHL, was the most liked athlete among females
    -- 1 female athlete in top 15

120 Sports, named for its concept of offering live and on-demand original sports programming designed and produced in two-minute segments, chose to unveil these monumental survey findings on the inaugural 120 Sports Day. January 20, 2015, has been officially proclaimed "120 Sports Day" by Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, where the 120 Sports production facilities are located.
