Philip Falcone was educated at Harvard until 1984. He began his career in 1985 dealing with the management of the companies on the edge of default at Kidder Peabody & Co. Then he worked at First Union and at Gleacher Natwest where he accumulated experience in LBOs.

Thereafter he became head of the negotiation of securities with high yield at Barclays Capital.

In 2001, he left Barclays Capital in order to create the fund Harbinger Capital Partners with $ 25 million. His company made a fortune by betting against subprime mortgages. In 2007, he won between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars of commission.
