Wayfarers Chapel is an ecumenical ministry of the Swedenborgian Church that serves as a spiritual sanctuary offering worship services, life celebrations such as baptisms, weddings, and memorials, and special events rooted in the theology and philosophy of Emanuel Swedenborg. Originally designed by architect Lloyd Wright in 1949, the chapel was located among redwoods with ocean views but was closed and disassembled in 2024 due to geological instability. The private company is based in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. The chapel emphasizes unity, spiritual inquiry, and respect for diverse religious traditions. The organization is working with the city to relocate and rebuild the chapel at the historic Battery Barnes military site, integrating preservation of military heritage and ecological conservation. The nonprofit Wayfarers Chapel Fund for the Future manages fundraising and stewardship for the chapel’s reconstruction and maintenance. While the chapel grounds are closed, Wayfarers Chapel continues its mission through online spiritual offerings, worship services at a nearby church, and community resources for spiritual growth and support.
