Kurt W. Rieke

Mr. Rieke joined Prospect in 2006 after a 25-year career as an environmental engineer, manager and lawyer, in both the public and private sectors.
From 2003 to 2006, Mr. Rieke worked with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection as First Deputy Director of the Bureau of Water Supply.
He was responsible for managing the operation of the 2000-square-mile watershed and drinking water supply infrastructure that supplies New York City and approximately 50 upstate communities, constituting one-half of the population of New York State.
Prior to his work at the Department of Environmental Protection, Mr. Rieke practiced in a New Jersey-based law firm focusing on areas of Brownfield development, site assessment, remediation and related regulatory fields.
Mr. Rieke was at Keyspan Energy from 1998 to 2000 where he was largely responsible, as in-house counsel, for managing the remediation and repositioning of the inventory of contaminated, former Manufactured Gas Plant sites, and for advising internal projects to seed the development of locally-owned businesses to promote distributed generation in Keyspan’s generation service area.
During 1986 to 1998, Mr. Rieke worked on the development and operation of 16 waste-to-energy facilities at Ogden Projects.
He was an advisor to owners and operators of solid waste management facilities and was an integral part of the team responsible for planning long-term management of solid waste and upgrading the operations and regulatory compliance of landfills in New York City.
Mr. Rieke graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BSc in Biology and a Masters in Environmental Engineering.
He received his J.D.
from the New York Law School in 1991.
