Jose Maria joined 3i Buyout team in 2006 from Calyon Structured Finance division, where he worked for five years in Madrid and Paris, participating in domestic and cross-border leveraged transactions including buyouts, corporate acquisitions, project financings and recapitalisations in various sectors, both with financial and corporate sponsors.
Among other transactions Jose Maria participated in the takeover bid launched by Ferrovial over the British airport operator BAA, the acquisition of Auna TLC by ONO along with a group of financial sponsors, and the take-private acquisition of the Spanish media group Recoletos by a group of financial investors.
Prior to that, Jose Maria spent two years working with Arthur Andersen in its Strategy and Management Consulting division, where he advised in a wide range of projects including restructuring, process reengineering and strategic advisory assignments.
Jose Maria gained his MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France) with a scholarship from “la Caixa”, having also completed an exchange programme with The Wharton School (USA).
He holds a BA in Commerce and Business Administration from INSEEC Bordeaux (France) and a BA in Business Administration and Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain).
He is a member of the INSEAD alumni association, as well as a member of the “la Caixa” alumni association.
He is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
