John D. Stobo
Profile
Dr. Stobo graduated from the University of Vermont School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was also chief medical resident.
He has spent his career researching, teaching and leading medical departments including positions as research assistant at the National Institutes of Health, staff of the department of immunology at the Mayo Clinic and section head of the rheumatology and clinical immunology department at the University of California, San Francisco.
In 1985, he returned to Johns Hopkins to serve as director of the department of medicine, and in 1997 he assumed the presidency of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston.
In addition to his career achievements, Dr. Stobo has served as president of the American Association of Professors of Medicine, president of the American College of Rheumatology, chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine and member of the Institute of Medicine.
