HighTower’s investment process begins by establishing each client's investment goal and risk tolerance. Once a client's investment statement has been developed and reviewed, portfolios are designed and managed using a mix of investments, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds (stock funds, bond funds and other asset classes), options, warrants, real estate investment trusts REITS, ETFs, alternative investments, and other securities as chosen by the firm.

Cresset PKP primarily allocates client assets, using pre-approved asset allocation models as a guide, among various mutual funds, ETFs, and independent investment managers in accordance with their stated investment objectives. In addition, the firm sometimes recommends clients invest in privately placed securities, which generally include debt, equity, and/or interests in pooled investment vehicles. PagnatoKarp Partners constructs model portfolios across a range of risk tolerances. They employ a combination of fundamental, technical, cyclical and behavioral finance methods of analysis while employing an asset allocation strategy based on a derivative of Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT).

Cresset invests in active and passive solutions and public and private vehicles. The firm optimizes asset allocation decisions based on the client’s goals, not simply market benchmarks. They form an investment committee, which includes senior management and investment managers, to analyze investments on their clients' behalf. Their investment strategies and advice may vary depending on each client's specific financial situation.
