Fjord is a hands-on manager which invests in clean energy with a focus on industrial resource efficiency in the energy, water and materials sectors. Their geographic focus is global, with a focus on Europe. The firm invests in clean energy companies at commercialization and growth-stage as well as in companies in need of restructuring. They do not invest in early-stage technology, and only invest in infrastructure in development-phase. They typically source deals through the principals' private networks, preferring to act as lead investor. Fjord partners with investee management, aiming to enhance investee company value through control positions and hands-on involvement in strategy, organization development, financing and commercial initiatives. They investigate both supply- and demand-side opportunities that have a near-term productivity enhancing impact on customers, and which are not dependent on government support. Their investment focus is on IP-based technology/equipment providers, scalable industrial application packagers, specialized high value-added service providers and legacy technology companies with repurposing potential. The firm supports investee company growth and prepares them for exit through a trade sales and IPOs.
