Vinci has announced that Amprion Offshore has awarded the design-build-installation contract for LanWin1 and LanWin3 (two offshore wind energy conversion platforms in the North Sea) to a consortium comprising Dragados Offshore - a subsidiary of Cobra IS (Cobra IS is a subsidiary of Vinci) - and Siemens Energy.

These platforms will convert the alternating current generated by several wind farms into high-voltage direct current, which will then be converted back into alternating current at onshore stations around 400 km away.

With a unit conversion and transmission capacity of 2GW, for a total of 4 GW, these platforms will be able to supply the equivalent of a city of 4 million inhabitants like Berlin.

The first platform is scheduled for commissioning in 2029, and the second in 2030.
