VIADUKT DD Today's laying of foundation stone indicated commencement of works on construction of the Bridge over the Sava river in the village of Svilaj, located in the County of Odžak. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Denis Zvizdić, the Minister of Communications and Traffic of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Ismir Jusko, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Oleg Butković and the Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Mr. Tomislav Tolušić. The representatives of the management boards of Hrvatske autoceste and Hrvatske ceste also attended the ceremony as well as the representatives of companies Viadukt and Hering, which formed a Joint Venture selected to construct the new bridge.
Bridge Svilaj shall be a part of the international Pan-European Transport Corridor 5C 'Budapest - Beli Manastir - Osijek - Sarajevo - Ploče', which belongs to the European motorway network route E-73 connecting the north of Europe with the Adriatic sea. The bridge is a mainstay of road traffic infrastructure in the eastern region of Croatia, and construction of the bridge has jointly been envisaged on the basis of an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to construct an interstate bridge over the Sava river at Svilaj including the linking border crossing motorway sections at Corridor 5C. Total value of the contracted works amounts to 22.308.022,34 euro exclusive of VAT, and each State shall finance 50 percent of the value. The Croatian portion has been provided from CEF fund in portion of 58 percent and by an EIB loan in portion of 42 percent.
The planned construction term is the period of two years starting from the date the Contractor is initiated into the works. The bridge is 660 meters long and 29 meters wide, and for each direction three traffic lanes are envisaged of 3,5 meters width, without the emergency lane but with safety traffic belts 0,5 meters high at both sides of the bridge. Furthermore, concrete monolithic pedestrian footway of 0,75 meters width is planned to be built.
