UBS announced on Friday the appointment to its Board of Directors of Gail Kelly, a 67-year-old financial executive who headed the Australian banks St. George Bank and Westpac.

She was chosen to replace Dieter Wemmer, the Swiss group's longest-serving director to date, having sat on the Board since 2016, but who did not wish to renew his mandate.

An Australian national, Gail Kelly orchestrated the 2008 merger between Westpac, of which she was then CEO, and St. George Bank, in the midst of the financial crisis.

Between 2016 and 2023, she served as a consultant to UBS's CEO and management team.
