Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has begun production of the new Toyota C-HR, including battery assembly for the first time in Europe, at its Sakarya site in Turkey.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (TMMT), whose production facilities have benefited from a new investment of 308 million euros, is Toyota's first European site to produce plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Since its launch, the Toyota C-HR has recorded cumulative sales in excess of 800,000 units. It has enabled Toyota to win over a large number of new customers, with the result that the brand's market share has risen from 4% to 7% in Europe.

' The production of a plug-in hybrid version equipped with a locally assembled battery will further extend Toyota's multi-technology offering serving its goal of total zero CO2 emissions across its European range1 by 2035', said Yoshihiro Nakata, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
