Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited on June 12, 2024 announced the appointment of Mr. Rajeev Kher (DIN: 01192524) as Additional Director under Independent category with effect from June 11,2024. Mr. Kher brings with him a rich and varied experience of four decades encompassing International Trade and Commerce, Industrial Development and Investment Policy, Competition Law and Policy, Sustainable Development Policy and Planning, Environmental Management and Global Governance. He spent 37 years in the Indian Administrative Service.

He spent twenty years in senior positions in the Ministry of Environment, and the Department of Commerce, in the Government of India culminating in the position of Commerce Secretary. He also held the position of the Member in the Competition Appellate Tribunal. On superannuation he was invited to be a Distinguished Fellow of RIS- a think tank on International Economic and Development Policy.

He also engages with similar other institutions offering his expertise in various studies, consultancies and projects on Industrial, Investment and Trade Policies. He is often included in government committees and other industrial and trade bodies addressing issues in his expert domain. He is independently consulted by well-known global companies.

His experience includes an interesting mix of government and non-government institutions. Even while being in the Government of India, he had a three-year tenure with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), preparing the first National Environment Policy for India. He held assignments in the State of Uttar Pradesh, in the Planning, Finance, Renewable Energy, Science and Technology and Personnel functions besides holding two challenging charges as District Magistrate.

Besides addressing development challenges at the grass roots, he also gained rich experience in decentralized governance during this period. He prepared the first comprehensive Foreign Trade Policy for India (2015 2020). The critical element of the policy was to connect the trade policy with the back end sectoral policies and mainstream international trade within domestic governance architecture.

The policy was situated in the larger global context. He has also contributed extensively to mainstream Standards and Technical Regulations in India's industrial and discourse on is presently engaged in developing a trade policy. He framework of policies on quality and standards in India's International Trade Policy.

Another of his engagement involves chairing an expert committee constituted by the only engagement in financial Services authority in India to develop a pathway and International for setting up a global commodity hub in India. His policy framework issues has been well respected by the stakeholder vision on international trade abroad community within India. He led negotiations on behalf of India for Such as EU, EFTA, RCEP and ASEAN.
