Sprint (NYSE:S) today named two new executives to key marketing roles. Placing a laser focus on marketing to existing and new customers, Sprint's new marketing firepower comes with the hire of Matt Carter and William Morgan, both slated to start this month.

Matt Carter will be Sprint's new Senior Vice President for base management, meaning he will be responsible for Sprint's existing base of customers, including their long-term satisfaction and retention. Bill Morgan will be Sprint's Senior Vice President of Brand/Advertising and will be responsible for Sprint's brand management, advertising and media strategy.

Carter will report to Sprint's President of Customer Management, Tim Kelly, and Morgan will report to Sprint's Chief Marketing Officer, Mark Schweitzer.

Carter previously was involved with an entertainment start up in San Diego and has held senior marketing positions at Bristol Myers, Coca-Cola, BellSouth, Leap Wireless and PNC Financial Services. He's a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., and has an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Morgan most recently was with Heller Ehrman in San Francisco, where he was chief strategy and marketing officer. Before that, he was the general manager of Microsoft's Silicon Valley operations and was the chief marketing officer of Microsoft's TV division. Morgan also has held senior marketing positions with SBC Communications and agencies D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Grey Advertising and Hal Riney & Partners. He graduated with a bachelor's in communications from St. Louis University.
