Spotless' EPICURE business is gearing up to serve more than half a million food and beverage items at Australia's biggest sporting event of the year - the AFL Grand Final - this Saturday.

The official Melbourne Cricket Ground caterer will operate more than 250 outlets at the iconic venue, including members' areas, restaurants, cafés, dining and function rooms, marquees, bars and food outlets. All are expected to be kept very busy serving thousands of Collingwood and West Coast Eagles fans!

By the time the final siren has sounded and trophy lifted, EPICURE's team of nearly 2,300 staff would have served approximately:

  • 24,000 pies and sausage rolls • 25,000 bottles of water
  • 55,000 litres of draught beer • 27,000 portions of hot chips
  • 13,000 hot beverages • 5,500 hot dogs

In preparing 12,000 plated meals, EPICURE chefs will make the most of our fresh seasonal food, using:

  • 550 kg of free range chicken breasts • 400 kg of Murray Valley spring lamb
  • 200 kg of Australian strawberry jam • 400 punnets of Queensland strawberries

'Catering for the AFL Grand Final is like a military exercise in logistics, planning and attention to detail,' said the State Manager for Leisure, Sports & Entertainment, David Mercer. 'However, our hard-working team really enjoys contributing to making one of Australia's most exciting sporting events a great experience for fans, through the food and service we provide.'

The EPICURE team will commence their first Grand Final shift at 6.30pm on Friday evening with the last shift concluding at 3am on Sunday morning. And that's after serving more than 6,000 corporate guests that attend over 36 events at the MCG during the week.
