Hamburg, 16 May 2024 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has received an early contract extension from Lufthansa Technik for the next four years. SPIE has been working for the customer at the Lufthansa base in Hamburg for 20 years and, among other things, looks after the operating resources and technical building equipment on the site, where around 8,500 employees work on a gross floor area of approximately 500,000 square metres. The Hamburg location of Lufthansa Technik, with its 85 buildings in total, including 23 production halls and workshops, seven hangars, 14 office buildings, numerous functional buildings and two canteens, resembles a small town.

Comprehensive services from a single source

Hamburg is the headquarters, competence centre and control centre of Lufthansa Technik, one of the world's leading providers of technical services for the aviation industry. The company's portfolio covers the entire service range for commercial, VIP and special mission aircraft. This includes the maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification of entire aircraft as well as their engines, components and landing gear, the manufacture of innovative cabin products and digital fleet support.

SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa will continue to provide technical services at the Lufthansa base with around 150 employees over the next four years. From the power supply and air conditioning to fire protection, the building control centre and a 24-hour standby service 365 days a year, all services come from a single source. "We have been familiar with the processes and systems on the company premises for years and ensured that the infrastructure functions reliably - for example, that the production systems run without restrictions, doors and gates as well as large crane systems work and the lifts operate. We are also successfully supporting our customer in its decarbonisation strategy with our solutions," says Rico Bergmann, head of the Hamburg Airport Branch in the SPIE Efficient Facilities operational division.

In addition to maintaining the technical building equipment and operating resources, the teams from the Efficient Facilities operational division also take care of reducing energy consumption.

High level of expertise and many years of experience

The services provided along the entire value chain of Lufthansa Technik require a high level of technical qualification as well as comprehensive knowledge of the facilities and the site on the part of SPIE employees. Some of the systems on the premises are unique to Lufthansa's Hamburg base. Thanks to its many years of knowledge about the location and systems, SPIE reacts quickly and competently, especially in the event of incidents such as power failures or burst pipes. "With our experience, versatility and, last but not least, team spirit, we confidently meet all the challenges of supplying this 'small town' and are responsible for many specialised technical areas such as 400 Hz technology or industrial oven calibration," says Rico Bergmann.

At the same time, the long-standing cooperation and early contract extension also demonstrates the long-term satisfaction of Lufthansa employees at the industrial site."We are delighted that Lufthansa Technik has extended the existing contract for a further four years ahead of schedule due to the many years of trusting cooperation, our high level of expertise, our great flexibility and our focus on solutions,"says Rainer Hollang, Member of the Management Board of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa and Managing Director of SPIE Efficient Facilities GmbH
