TRINITY, N.C., Jan. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sealy® (NYSE: ZZ), North America's No. 1 mattress brand, today introduced its line of Next Generation Posturepedic mattresses, boasting superior support and innovation along with a new signature aesthetic.

"With this launch, we were committed to building upon Posturepedic's 60-year heritage of support, while taking it into the future by designing a mattress that provides superior support for all you do in bed - from watching TV to packing for a trip to playing with your kids," said Jodi Allen, Chief Marketing Officer at Sealy. "Our new line does just that, offering smart advancements that provide superior support right where consumers need it most."

At the heart of the line is Posturepedic's new exclusive and proprietary CoreSupport(TM) Center, a reinforced area in the middle of the mattress that is a combination of power-packed materials and titanium alloy springs. Why the center? It's the part of the mattress that sees the most action, and it also supports the heaviest part of the body while you sleep. This new design supports the body 20 percent better than other leading brands, taking support to a whole new level.

During the design process, Sealy conducted several rounds of research, including ethnographic in-home interviews with consumers, to determine how people are really using their beds. These insights along with input from more than 100 retailers and 500 retail sales associates drove key design elements and features for the new Posturepedic - ones that solve everyday problems for consumers when interacting with their mattress.

Such proprietary and patent-pending enhancements include Posturepedic's new LiftRight(TM) Surround handles, which wrap around all sides of the mattress and help in moving or lifting the mattress, whether moving to a new home or simply making the bed in the morning. Posturepedic's StayTight(TM) Foundation is another addition, bringing smart design to box springs by providing a rubberized surface on the top of the foundation to keep the mattress in place, while also keeping sheets and the bed skirt right where they belong.

"Part of the challenge of mattresses is that innovation is typically hidden below the surface where consumers cannot see it," said Allen. "We wanted to create an aesthetic for Posturepedic that is both recognizable and appealing to a wide range of consumers, while also communicating the incredible technology inside."

The signature look of the new Posturepedic does just that. Its quilted design in the center third of the mattress, for example, highlights the CoreSupport(TM) center inside and was recognized by consumers in research as providing "superior support" versus competitive designs. Other signature design elements include a grid-like surface on the box spring to highlight the StayTight(TM) rubberized foundation cover.

"We are extremely excited to introduce this new line of mattresses under our flagship Posturepedic brand and believe that it will be met with great enthusiasm by consumers and retailers alike," said Larry Rogers, Chief Executive Officer at Sealy. "This is a new era of support for Posturepedic - one that was built upon a tremendous amount of consumer research and retailer input to meet the evolving needs of our consumers."

Sealy is displaying the new Posturepedic line at the 2011 Las Vegas Market, January 24 - 28, in the Sealy Showroom.
