Roche announced on Tuesday that it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its new 'Roche Digital Pathology Dx' system.

The Swiss pharmaceutical group says the device, which is equipped with its Ventana DP 200 slide scanner, is designed to help laboratories interpret digital imaging obtained from microscope slides to aid patient diagnosis.

Once the scanner has converted the tissue into images, these images can be managed, shared and analyzed by pathologists so that they can, for example, more easily determine the treatment of a cancer patient.
