The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (Acea) has no intention of challenging the European decision to ban combustion engines in 2035, whatever the outcome of the forthcoming European Parliament elections, Acea president Luca de Meo said on Monday.

"Our responsibility as business leaders, once the thing has been decided, is not to argue against the regulation," he said at an association press conference held at the Geneva Motor Show.

"We are citizens, we must do everything to put our organizations in the conditions to comply. We're not contesting 2035. Now we have to get on with it."

"It's potentially feasible, but the right conditions need to be put in place," he added.

Politicians and industry professionals are currently considering whether to revise or withdraw the ban on internal combustion engines, agreed as part of Europe's decarbonization objectives, should the European Parliament swing to the right after the June elections.
