Presstek, Inc. : Fischerdruck Targets Increased Profits with Presstek 52DI-AC

West Drayton, UK -- January 9, 2012 - Presstek, Inc. (NASDAQ: PRST), a leading supplier of digital offset printing solutions to the printing and communications industries, today reported that Fischerdruck GmbH & Co. KG has installed a Presstek 52DI-AC digital offset press. With its new 52DI-AC, Fisherdruck is producing more short- and medium-run work in house, resulting in reduced costs, better job management, and improved profitability.

Saarbrücken-based Fischerdruck previously operated conventional offset and digital toner presses. The company is using the Presstek 52DI-AC to produce runs from 500 to 10,000 more efficiently and profitably, effectively bridging the gap between toner and offset. The 52DI-AC press, which includes an in-line aqueous coater, was installed by Presstek's distribution partner, Heinrich Baumann Grafisches Centrum from Frankfurt am Main.

Fischerdruck is now more efficiently fulfilling a wider range of short-run requests. This is enabled by the 52DI-AC's flexibility in the use of substrates and special colors. Plus, the aqueous coater, which supports both spot and flood coating, adds significant value to the finished piece.

"The Presstek 52DI-AC helps us increase profitability because we can now keep smaller orders in-house that we previously had to outsource," says Stefan Fischer, Head of Marketing and Sales at Fischerdruck. "The integrated aqueous coating option was critical to our investment decision, since it helps us differentiate ourselves from the competition. The highly automated DI press is ideal for fast production of high-quality brochures, envelopes, flyers, gatefolds and other jobs in runs up to 10,000."

Flexibility and cost savings

The Presstek 52DI-AC is helping Fischerdruck optimize its internal production processes. And it's delivering substantial savings because it produces virtually no waste. All plates are simultaneously imaged on press in precise register without chemistry and offer the ability to print 300 lpi or FM (stochastic) screening without extra time or expense.

Another benefit for Fischerdruck is the change to the A3+ (52cm) format: "Previously, many orders for brochure envelopes were created on larger format offset presses which generated a lot of waste. That waste represents a great deal of unnecessary cost when you're dealing with expensive envelope papers," says Fischer.

Fischerdruck is also enjoying the Presstek 52DI-AC fast changeover capabilities. The press can be set up automatically at the touch of a button, leaving operators free to arrange the materials and prepare not only the current job, but begin setting up subsequent jobs. Fischerdruck reports that this added productivity has resulted in savings of about 50%.

The Presstek 52DI-AC is also unbeatable when it comes to reproducing fine lines, small type and detailed raster images. "In traditional offset, very fine raster images can be difficult to reproduce," adds Fischer. "Since the first job we ran on the Presstek DI, the print quality has been brilliant. Its waterless offset printing leaves nothing to be desired in this respect. The eco-friendly credentials of the Presstek 52DI-AC are also proving popular with our customers. This is particularly true among our public-sector customers, who typically look for sustainable, environmentally responsible production technologies when outsourcing print work."

The DI product range

Presstek DI digital offset presses are available in three models - the Presstek 75DI, Presstek 52DI and Presstek 34DI. All are environmentally friendly, highly automated and offer 300 lpi and FM screening.

The Presstek 52DI is a digital, landscape-format press with a production speed of up to 10,000 sheets per hour, a makeready time of about 10 minutes, and a maximum sheet format of 520 x 375mm. The 52DI is available with an optional aqueous coater and as a UV print model. It supports a wide range of substrates up to a thickness of 0.5mm.
