Panasonic Corp. will launch a service in early April that will enable users to enjoy roasting coffee beans without hassle at home. In the service, called "The Roast," the company will sell a smart coffee bean roaster for JPY 108,000. It will also deliver different kinds of high-quality coffee beans, selected from all over the world, every month for a monthly charge of JPY 4,104 for two kinds and JPY 5,940 for three kinds on a one-year contract. The machine will roast beans in accordance with instructions that Naoki Goto, the 2013 world coffee roasting champion, prepared for each kind of bean. Users will be required to download the instructions, or roast profiles, and send them to their roasters via smartphones. The service is designed to provide customers with superb experience by combining select beans, the roasting master's techniques and Panasonic's cooking appliance and information technologies.
