Five Macy's Inc. stores will close in Florida this year 2017, including one in Central Florida. The company announced 68 store closings, which are part of the previously announced approximately 100 stores it will close by the end of 2017. The following stores in Florida will be closed: Oviedo Marketplace, Oviedo (195,000 square feet; opened in 2000; 83 associates); Lakeland Square, Lakeland (101,000 square feet; opened in 1995; 68 associates); Sarasota Square, Sarasota (143,000 square feet; opened in 1977; 86 associates); University Square Mall, Tampa (140,000 square feet; opened in 1974; 73 associates); CityPlace, West Palm Beach, FL (108,000 square feet; opened in 2000; 72 associates). Macy's operates six stores in Central Florida at: Mall at Millenia, Florida Mall, Orlando Fashion Square, Oviedo Mall, Seminole Towne Center Altamonte Mall.
