SINGAPORE, 9 April 2015 - M1 Limited (M1) is collaborating with the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), as its Home Access programme partner, to deliver high speed fibre broadband Internet access to up to 8,000 low-income households that do not have school going children and with at least one Singapore citizen.

Through the programme, eligible households will be able to enjoy M1's 100Mbps fibre broadband service, and will also receive an Internet router and a 7-inch Alcatel tablet, for only S$6 a month (inclusive of GST) over a 2-year contract.

To complement the programme, M1's SunCare Club staff volunteers are launching a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to conduct regular training sessions in the use of mobile applications and devices for Home Access households. This will ensure the households derive the most benefit from the Home Access programme.

M1's SunCare Club was started in 2004 by dedicated employees who are passionate about helping the less fortunate. The Club organises regular activities for various volunteer welfare organisations such as Beyond Social Services and the Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association, and is supported by M1 through financial assistance and corporate resources. M1 will work with the IDA to schedule the training sessions, which begin in June 2015. M1 expects to conduct at least four sessions this year. Households will be informed of the training sessions, and registration forms made available to the households, during service installation.

"The digital divide is one of our society's most pressing challenges, with wide-ranging impact on an underprivileged individual's prospect in the information economy. As a responsible corporate citizen, we continually strive to identify ways to bridge the digital divide. With this partnership with the IDA and our new CSR initiative, we hope that our staff volunteers will be able to put their technical skills to good use in fostering digital inclusion," said Mr Willis Sim, Director, Product Development and Corporate Solutions, M1.
