Lockheed Martin announces that two upgraded T901 engines have arrived at Sikorsky, marking a new phase in the modernization of its Black Hawk helicopters.

Manufactured by GE Aerospace, the engines increase UH-60M Black Hawk performance by 50% and improve fuel efficiency, giving the military more mission options without the need for costly re-engineering, Lockheed says.

Sikorsky plans to install the engines in two Black Hawks for ground and flight testing, accelerating the test program.

Several key milestones have already been achieved for this integration, including successful design reviews and software qualification testing.

The Black Hawk upgrade will improve safety, mission availability and reduce maintenance costs.
