The European Rotorcraft Forum 2013 (ERF) held on 3-6 September in Moscow was one of the best in the Forum's history organisationally and technically, and also witnessed some one of the most interesting presentations. This year's Forum was organised by Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of Rostec State Corporation.

The Forum brought Russia and the EU closer together on a number of scientific and technical initiatives in helicopter-building and work on creating new helicopters. Participants held highly professional discussions of key aspects of cooperation among international scientific circles. The Forum's technical sessions saw more than 250 experts fr om countries including Russia, the US, France, Italy, Germany and Japan discuss fundamental and applied topics including aerodynamics, acoustics, high-tech materials, integration of on-board systems, airworthiness maintenance, operational matters and safety.

Speakers also noted the great progress that the Russian helicopter-building sector has made in recent years, particularly in developing new helicopters such as the Mi-171A2 and Ka-62, and the rapid growth in deliveries (reaching 290 in 2012) including the latest Mi-28NE Night Hunter and Ka-52 Alligator models.

The ERF's Organising Committee praised the outcomes of the Forum. Organising Committee Chairman and Russian Helicopters CEO Dmitry Petrov said: "The Forum was the perfect platform for discussing and finding solutions to issues facing the helicopter sector today, and offered a glimpse into the future of our industry. I am convinced that the forum has once again made an important contribution to broadening the horizons of international cooperation in high-tech helicopter production."

Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee Dmitry Podoryashy said: "The Forum was another landmark in the development of the sector and gave participants a great opportunity to discuss recent developments and trends in global helicopter technologies."

The closing plenary session included a speech by Russia's Industry and Trade Minister Yury Slyusar, who praised the work of the forum and drew particular attention to Russia's recent successes in the sector: "Russian helicopter constructors are strong players on the global market.
