MILWAUKEE, Jan. 23, 2014 --  Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company with established core businesses in the automotive, building, and energy storage industries, announced today that RobecoSAM (SAM's), an investment specialist focused on sustainability investing, has recognized the company as a 2014 Bronze Class Sustainability Leader in its annual Sustainability Yearbook. The yearbook commemorates companies with the best sustainability practices.

Starting with this year's assessment, SAM's industry classifications have been aligned with the Global Industry Classification System (GICS), the most widely accepted standard in the financial industry. Johnson Controls was one of six companies recognized as a sustainability leader in the auto components industry. Companies receiving a score within 5 percent to 10 percent of the industry leader receive the RobecoSAM Bronze Class distinction. Johnson Controls is the only North American company among the sustainability leaders in its industry.

"We are honored to be recognized once again by RobecoSAM," said Charles A. Harvey, vice president of Diversity and Public Affairs at Johnson Controls. "Our dedication and commitment to sustainability is driven by our vision and values and is an integral part of who we are. It is demonstrated daily by our 170,000 employees around the world."

This year, over 3,000 companies were invited to participate in the assessment. Only the top 15 percent of companies in each of the 59 industries assessed were eligible for inclusion and achieved a score within 30 percent of the industry leader score. The RobecoSAM results provide the basis for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices which measures the performance of the world's sustainability leaders.
