Meet us at EuroMedLab to learn more about calprotectin in plasma and serum

We look forward to exhibit athe XXIV IFCC-EFLM European Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine EuroMedLab, in Munich in April 2022.

We hope to see you at our booth #201 to discuss measurement of calprotectin in plasma and serum in the assessment of inflammation and severe infection.

Biomarker for early detection of the inflammatory response to infections

Calprotectin is one of the earliest biomarkers for detection of the inflammatory response to infections1,2. The biomarker is predominantly expressed in neutrophil granulocytes, and it is released upon neutrophil activation in response to inflammation and infection.

Discriminating between bacterial and viral infection Calprotectin has been reported as diagnostic marker in the discrimination between bacterial and viral infection3, in assessment of severe infections and sepsis4-6and in the prediction for development of severe infections7. Interestingly, calprotectin has also been reported a risk marker in severe COVID-198,9, which in contrast to other viral infections induce a hyperinflammation response and pathways that mimic bacterial sepsis10.
Biomarker for non-infectious inflammatory diseases, like rheumatic diseases Calprotectin is also a highly valuable biomarker for non-infectious inflammatory diseases, like rheumatic diseases11. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) blood calprotectin has been reported to correlate with the inflammation in the arthritic joints and disease severity12.

GCAL® - Plasma and serum calprotectin immunoassay

The Gentian Calprotectin Immunoassay (GCAL®) is the first turbidimetric assay for the quantitative measurement of calprotectin in plasma and serum intended as an aid in the detection and assessment of inflammation. The open channel assay can be applied on a wide range of automated clinical chemistry analysers.
