April 10, 2022 8:05 PM FC Porto set the record of 57 consecutive undefeated matches in the league with the victory in Guimarães (1-0)

FC Porto beat Vitória de Guimarães (1-0) for matchday 29 of the League and reached the 57th consecutive undefeated match in the championship, a League record. The Dragons remain in the lead with 79 points, six more than Sporting.

The goal scored in the first-half by FC Porto could have come earlier, but it took 35 minutes for Mehdi Taremi to open the scoreboard at Estádio D. Afonso Henriques, in Guimarães. Two minutes into a match that felt like a one way street in the first-half - even if without many dangerous situations -, the Iranian forward passed to Pepê, but the number 11, already inside the area, couldn't shoot at the goal defended by Bruno Varela. After many minutes that had a lot of aggressiveness, dynamism and many duels, the most exciting moment for the blue and whites finally came: Otávio lobbed a pass to Mehdi Taremi, between the central defenders, the number 9 controlled the ball, dodged the defenders, put the ball past the goalkeeper and was brought down by Varela. João Pinheiro pointed to the penalty spot, and, as usual, Taremi made it count, fooling the goalkeeper and placing an excellent shot in the top corner of the goal. It was the ninth penalty scored in nine attempts for the FC Porto forward. The break came with only a one goal lead, but another 45 minutes of battle were expected in Minho.

The second-half started the same way as the first. In a quick counter for the blue and whites, after Taremi recovered the ball, Pepê dribbled his opponent and shot at the side net of Bruno Varela's goal (46m). Sixty minutes in, Fábio Vieira saw Mehdi escaping the central defenders, passed him perfectly, and the forward again put the ball past Bruno Varela and again was tackled by the goalkeeper. With the penalty given, this time Taremi wasn't has fortunate, and the goalkeeper saved it. After a period of time with less offensive organization, the Dragons again found their usual pace, and, looking for a second goal, Pepe, alone in the far post, headed straight at the goalkeeper's hands after a cross from Zaidu. Until the end, Galeno failed to increase the blue and white lead in the match, in a good play where the Brazilian winger was well placed for the goal. Still, FC Porto got three special points - as the record of consecutive undefeated match in the championship was broken.
