Flagstar Bancorp : Announces Community Grants Tied to New Branch Openings

Now Accepting Nominations for Midtown

TROY, Mich. , Jan. 28, 2015 -- Flagstar Bank has announced a program to connect its new branches to their neighborhoods and make a lasting impact in the community. Flagstar's new branch in Midtown at 3901 Woodward Ave. in Detroit is the first participant in the program.

Called Michigan Makeovers, the program awards a $5,000 grant for a revitalization project in the market area of Flagstar's new branches. The public nominates its favorite project via MIMakeovers.com and can vote on the site or at the Midtown branch.

"We're thinking typical projects might be lighting or landscaping for a downtown area, a community garden, or a bike path-things like that," said Dave VanderPloeg, director of Retail Banking for Flagstar. "It's a way for us to make an impact in the community that lives on after our branch opening."

Nominations for Midtown can be submitted online until Feb. 11. A Flagstar panel will review and select three projects, and these will be voted on by the public from Feb. 17 until March 3. Representatives of the top vote-getter will receive the grant in a check presentation at the new branch. The process will repeat with each new or relocated Flagstar branch.

A final piece of the program is a sweepstakes for a Night on the Town that everyone who votes on a makeover will be entered into for a chance to win. The "town" will be specific to the locale of the branch.

Hours at the Midtown branch are Monday and Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Flagstar Bancorp, Inc. is a savings and loan holding company. The Company's business is primarily conducted through its subsidiary, Flagstar Bank, FSB (the Bank). The Bank provides commercial and consumer banking services. It operates through three segments: Community Banking, Mortgage Originations and Mortgage Servicing. The Community Banking segment originates loans, provides deposits and fee-based services to consumer, business, and mortgage lending customers through its branch banking, business banking and commercial banking, government banking and warehouse lending. The Mortgage Originations segment originates and acquires one-to-four family residential mortgage loans to sell or hold. The Mortgage Servicing segment services and subservices mortgage and other consumer loans for others on a fee for service basis. The Mortgage Servicing segment also services loans for its loans held-for-investment (LHFI) portfolio and its own LHFS portfolio in the Mortgage Originations segment.
