FGC UES completed reconstructing Kolpino substation, one of key UES Northwest facilities

FGC UES reconstructed a 330 kV Kolpino substation in Saint Petersburg. The completion ceremony timed to the Power Engineers' Day was attended by Igor Albin, Vice Governor of Saint Petersburg, and Andrey Murov, Chairman of FGC UES. Total investments into the reconstruction of the facility supplying energy to 175,000 citizens amounted to 2.7 billion rubles.

330 Kolpino substation is one of key elements of the 330 kV unified energy system of power network of the North-West. It has been in operation since 1982. Kolpino is connected to 330 and 110 kV substations via 18 transmission lines and supplies electricity to Kolpino district of Saint Petersburg, with a population of 175,000 people where there are more than 30 major industrial, transportation and construction companies.

As part of substation expansion and reconstruction initiative, the substation was equipped with two new 200 MVA transformers and two 110 kV power transformers of 25 MVA each. The 330 kV switchyard was extended due to the installation of two 330 kV line cell and 29 switchyard cells of 110 kV. The renewed facility is equipped with modern relay protection and automatic emergency response systems. Basic power equipment is of Russian origin.

The reconstruction enhanced power supply reliability in Saint Petersburg, created conditions for increased power transfer from the generator to the consumer with due consideration of the region's future development. The introduction of modern hardware, monitoring and management devices allowed reducing operating costs.

Moreover, power delivery to Izhora Pipe Mill and Slitting lines shop No.3 now amount to 79.4 MBA.
