The five-story, 274,000-square-foot Fifth Third Faculty
Office Building (FOB) will house support functions for the
hospital, including office space for administrative staff and
Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine faculty physicians
who will practice at the campus, as well as work space for
both research and various academic support programs.
Along with an 11-story hospital tower and a planned
ambulatory care building, the new FOB will enable Eskenazi
Health's physicians and staff to be consolidated on one
modern campus. Currently, physician offices are located in
multiple older buildings throughout Indianapolis. The Fifth
Third FOB will be jointly owned by Duke Realty and Health and
Hospital Corporation of Marion County (HHC), which operates
the Wishard system, and leased solely by HHC.
"We are pleased with our unique public-private partnership
with Duke Realty that will result in a centralized,
state-of-the- art faculty facility built for staff and
physician convenience and increased efficiency," says Dr.
Lisa E. Harris, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director
of Wishard Health Services. "Duke Realty worked hard to
develop a creative, flexible solution that meets our needs.
The Fifth Third Faculty Office Building, which will be
connected to our newly built hospital, will enable us to
continue our long-standing commitment to provide the highest
quality healthcare to Indianapolis- area residents."
"The current Wishard Memorial Hospital campus is spread over
17 buildings, many of which were built before World War II,"
notes Keith Konkoli, a Senior Vice President with Duke
Realty. "We are thankful for the opportunity to play a key
role in bringing this modern, centralized replacement
hospital campus to the Indianapolis area through the
development of the new Fifth Third Faculty Office
Building."
Browning Investments Inc., another Indianapolis-based
developer, also played a key role during the early stages of
the Fifth Third FOB project. Duke Realty and Browning have
worked together to develop several successful commercial real
estate properties in the Indianapolis metro area over the
years.
Construction of the Fifth Third FOB is scheduled to be
completed December 2013. The architects for the project are
St. Louis-based HOK Group Inc. and Indianapolis-based BSA
LifeStructures Inc. Duke Realty will serve as construction
manager and property manager.
Wishard officials anticipate that the new campus will receive
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design®
(LEED) Silver certification, making it one of 10 new
hospitals in the United States and the first in Indiana to be
certified Silver or higher. Wishard officials say the new 1.2
million-square-foot complex will serve more patients in
one-third less space than the current facilities, and it will
use half the amount of energy with 12 percent lower operating
costs.
For more than 150 years, Wishard Health Services has served Indiana residents, with a special emphasis on the vulnerable, underserved populations of Marion County. The hospital began a teaching affiliation with Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1909. Today more than 99 percent of Wishard's physicians are faculty members
