Darden Restaurants laid off about 20 employees at its Orlando-based corporate headquarters who worked in the department that plans new restaurants. According to Darden, the layoffs were in restaurant development an area the company is cutting as it dramatically slows growth. It has halted construction of new Olive Gardens for at least three years and slowed down openings of LongHorn Steakhouses.

LongHorn Steakhouse will open 15 to 20 restaurants annually, down from the 30 to 35 Darden had planned.
