Cemig revealed plans to invest BRL 1.8 billion ($750 million) to develop the so-called Minas Triangle gas pipeline project. The 456km network will link the cities of Betim and Uberaba, doubling the firm's gas distribution volume in Minas Gerais state. It is expected to be completed by March 2016.

With a transport capacity of 3Mm3/d, the pipeline is considered key in Cemig's plans to boost gas supply to the central and southern regions of Minas Gerais, a hub for the state's industrial sector. The project will also feed the Uberaba fertilizer plant belonging to state-run energy giant Petrobras. Still in its early development phase, the plant will consume 1.2Mm3/d when it comes online November 2016.
