Bucher Industries committed to develop increasingly sustainable products
In 2019, Bucher Industries pursued its sustainability strategy with great commitment, despite increasingly challenging markets. The focus of its efforts continued to be on the efficiency and productivity of its products, as this is the biggest lever the Group has to contribute to a sustainable future. Bucher Industries utilises the Standards of the Global Reporting Initiative to report its sustainability efforts.
Bucher Industries' sustainability strategy consists of the four pillars of Environment, Customers, Employees and Compliance. A strong focus lies on reducing the impact of its products on the environment by steadily developing them to increase their efficiency and productivity. By doing so, the Group enables its customers to use less resources when operating the machines and vehicles, and, at the same time, to be more profitable.
An example is a farmer in the UK who transferred to a no-till system with the Aurock seed drill from Kuhn Group. His use of cover crops in-between cash crops has allowed him to reduce the use of crop protection products and improve the biodiversity of the soil on his fields. An increasing demand for low-emission and low-noise municipal vehicles is met by the new V65e truck-mounted sweeper which was launched by Bucher Municipal in 2019. This fully electric vehicle provides ease of use, manoeuvrability and a full eight hours sweeping on a single charge at low operational cost.
With its AX linear drive, a decentralised electro-hydraulic drive solution, Bucher Hydraulics offers a solution which meets requirements regarding major reductions in CO2 emissions - requirements resulting from new environmental directives. Increased net power output combined with a massive reduction in power losses makes for a revolutionary improvement in the drives' carbon footprint. With Bucher Emhart Glass's technology, the quality of glass containers is higher, which reduces losses in the manufacturing process. This means less energy input and less CO2 emissions per glass container and at the same time a higher output for the manufacturer. And at Bucher Landtechnik's Precision Center, specialists support farmers with GPS steering systems on tractors and section control on equipment to reduce overlap in the application of seeds, fertiliser and crop protection products.
By meeting customers' requirements and demands, and working together to achieve the best possible output, Bucher Industries and its customers can be successful in the long term. Despite the more difficult circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Bucher Industries remains committed to its sustainability strategy. The Group is currently reassessing the strategy in order to focus on the topics it considers material and to ensure that it can move forward in these areas.
