SPC successfully completes project for water utility company
Published on:11 | 09 | 2023

Specialist Protective Coatings (SPC) recently finished a project for AJ Metals, who are a specialist manufacturer of pressure vessels. SPC worked on two vessels that will be used in the water utilities industry. AJ Metals manufacture vessels for a wide range of industries from water companies, oil and gas, to medical, agriculture but also bespoke vessels for higher education institutions.

AJ Metals have a robust quality management system in place and operate to ISO standards. This covers all stages from design to production to final dispatch of vessels. This has allowed them to become an internationally recognised manufacturer of high integrity pressure vessels, air receivers, skid packages and welded fabrications.

SPC were asked to apply specialist coatings for both the internal and the external surfaces of the two vessels. The external specification required a three coat epoxy system of the metal vessels which acts as a corrosion inhibitor. 500 Microns of Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) approved solvent free epoxy were applied to the internal surfaces. The DWI operates the approval for products used by UK water suppliers under the requirements of the relevant regulations on behalf of the national authorities.

Having worked with AJ Metals for a number of years, we welcomed supporting them with this project," said Paul Whiting, General Manager at Specialist Protective Coatings. "Our team have the experience in working with pressure vessels, and ensuring we provide a protective coating that meets industry standards for these vessels. We look forward to working with AJ Metals again in the future."
