BEWI increases to 30% recycled content in automotive and technical components, reinforcing its commitment to a circular economy

BEWI, a leader in sustainable packaging, components, and insulation solutions, announces a significant step forward in sustainable manufacturing practices, by increasing the recycled content in EPP (expanded polystyrene) automotive and HVAC components produced at the company's facilities in Skara and Värnamo, Sweden. The increase aligns with the ambitious sustainability goals of automotive manufacturers, as well as with BEWI's own targets to become circular, including increasing its share of recycled or non-fossil raw materials.

"Elevating the recycled content in EPP components from 25 to 30 per cent results in a 16 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the use of conventional material. This improvement underlines BEWI's efforts to offer products with lower carbon footprint, helping our customers to reach their climate reduction targets", explains Fredrik Johansson, Operations Director of BEWI Automotive.

EPP components are vital in the automotive industry, particularly in electric vehicles requiring lightweight and insulating components. BEWI's EPP solutions are used in various automotive parts, such as shock absorbers and interior components, contributing to lighter vehicles and thus reducing emissions and increasing the driving distance.

Beyond its use in the automotive sector, EPP components are crucial in heating, ventilation, and air-condition (HVAC) systems, where they enhance insulation, efficiency, and the longevity in equipment.

"EPP's adaptability and recyclability make the material a preferred choice for various applications, resonating with BEWI's commitment to sustainable solutions," adds Johansson.
