The Japanese government on March 19, 2013, appointed former Asian Development Bank President Haruhiko Kuroda as the Bank of Japan governor, effective March 20,2013. BOJ Governor Masaaki Shirakawa, whose five-year term is valid through April 8, will step down on March 19, 2013, as the five-year terms of his deputies.
